Soul Stains by Barbara Burns

Today, 5/23/09, was one of those thinking while painting days … yesterday I watched / listened online to the new Willie Nelson song video … Gravedigger … the man is nearly 76 years old … it got me to thinking about how we each live our life … and some more than others have stains on our souls similar to hard water stains left behind in bathtubs and bathroom sinks. Today anyway … this is how I think mine is doing :)

Embellished Prints vs Standard Fine Art Prints

I have lots of fine art prints available for sale in my Imagekind Gallery … they are gorgeous too :) This is one of my very favorite paintings of mine … the original watercolor I painted is for sale …. $10 grand … I would not do anything to experiment or change the original .. but scanners, computer painting programs and giclee printing allows me the opportunity to do so many more things with it than just painting and forgetting the original image.

Standard fine art prints or posters are great home decor that can be very cost effective to switch out for new prints or posters on a monthly or seasonal basis … they also are wonderful gifts.

Embellished fine art prints … many serious art collectors take these very seriously … take note though that not all embellished prints are embellished by the original artist … fine art prints are created using papers or canvas … then paints, inks, watercolors, markers, gel pens, fabrics, gemstones, glitters, sparkles, etc. … something … is used on the print to:

1. Highlight what is already there – hired print embellishers generally ONLY highlight existing details.

or

2. Add new details and textures not already existing in the artwork – artists doing their own print embellishments (like me) make these embellished prints into unique original mixed media artworks.

Embellished prints will all be unique .. no two can ever be exactly alike.

I have an 8 x 10 canvas print of this painting … looked great as is without embellishments … so far, I used iridescent calligraphy gold india ink on it first to highlight several places where the light shines golden to me. I will be working more on it this week-end … maybe pink and blue shimmery paint next to highlight some of the sand dune and sea waves.

Very subtle changes most notable in the light changing in a room – when the light glances off it just right, it is spectacular … when it doesn’t .. the paint additions are not very noticeable at all … I personally like “hidden highlights” that appear when ya least expect it.
