Boxer Dog - The Bad Dog - 2 Dog Artists - Ann Ranlett & Diane Blackman
Anyone who has ever had a Boxer knows exactly what I mean when I say ours has a well-deserved nickname of “Bad Dog”! Magnus thinks it is a term of endearment & love …. Grandma started calling him the Bad Little Dog when he was a puppy - and he truly is a Bad Dog but ya just cannot help but love the silly thing and to laugh at his antics - even when he is loving me nearly to death! Our Bad Dog goes ballistic every time I go over to my daughter’s house - I have to let him jump & bounce off me & get done wetting all over the place - he LOVES his Grandma! He gets VERY excited just hearing me drive up - he gets all excited & happy when he hears my voice on the phone too - he just cannot find me anywhere though he goes all over the house looking for me!
May 9, 2006: Last nite, I went over to see my grandson because it was his birthday - he is now 9 years old. The Bad Dog watched as my grandson was hugging me good-bye - then he started jumping on both of us and barking & getting overly excited as he does … it is really funny and when my grandson started telling him, “My Grandma” …. that was it … Magnus went beserk - he is only playing … albeit very roughly … he is only playing … I swear he thinks he is a tiny little 2 pound lapdog instead of 70 plus pounds of pure muscle & strength … and please remember that he LOVES Grandma … nearly to death sometimes when he is overly excited to see me! I don’t know who laughed more last nite - me, my daughter or my grandson - it really is funny just how much that dog adores me! He adores my grandson very much too … but he doesn’t maul my grandson the way he does Grandma.
Our Bad Dog is a gorgeous creature (lots of deep sable brown) but he slobbers & slimes us all the time … I still have the scratches from last nite where he was trying to crawl into my lap while I was standing up! He is the most hilarious dog I’ve ever met though - ya cannot help but love him & laugh yourself silly no matter how rough he might be in his excitement to these tired old bones … he doesn’t act that way with anyone else - just Grandma - he REALLY does LOVE his Grandma!!!! And it is always hilarious to watch him trying to climb on the kitchen table to sit in my lap whenever I sit down at the kitchen table! Once he calms down, then he has to lie right under my feet for awhile until something else catches his attention and he forgets that I am a novelty - it is nice to become just part of the household so he isn’t trying to climb into my lap! But that doesn’t mean I can get up & walk around without him being right there everywhere I go!
April 2, 2007: The Bad Dog came and spent the week-end … he was so happy to see his Grandma … he still loves me nearly to pieces … he brought his friend Miss Candy and my Miss Sugar Plum was thrilled they came to play with her. She is even more playful than the Bad Dog … but she is still a puppy and may grow out of all this excitement … Saturday was his birthday - he is now a 5 year old dog .. and he still acts as if he is a puppy though my puppy wears him out with all ofher energy!
A friend of mine paints gorgeous animal portraits … she has one titled “Not Me” that looks just like our our Bad Dog … visit and see … and buy some of her art - it would look great on your walls .. I’m on her waiting list because I want her to paint me a portrait of our pretty girl that left us last November. She is an excellent artist and a terrific person. Be sure to visit Ann Ranlett - fabulous artist! I LOVE her pet portraits with pizzazz!
Another friend of mine, Diane Blackman, also has lovely dog art - you can see some of hers below from ImageKind … great gifts for those who love dogs … I love her English Shepherd! I do not even much like Pugs … but she has captured a mischievious look that begs to be noticed and hugged. The corgi is lovely too … I love dogs whose ears stick up like that … Sugar Plum’s ears do not … but she has a very sweet and loving personality so that makes up for her ears not standing up … and the Bad Dog .. his ears WERE NOT cropped … he is adorable with his floppy ears …. he does not look mangled or “styled” … he looks like himself … they had already cropped his tail before my daughter got him … sigh … my thinking is that if he was not supposed to have a tail … he would not have had one to begin with … people!
Note: Ann and Diane have very different art styles … but paintings from both talk to me and beg me to hang their art on my walls … I hope you enjoy their paintings as much as I do!
