Happy May Day! When I was a kid, we would tie ribbons to the top of a pole for May Day and weave the ribbons around the pole by dancing around it - half of us in one direction with the other half in the other direction if I remember right. This gorgeous kitten illustration makes me smile and remember …

… how much fun May Day used to be when the world was a bit simpler to live in. Those days are long gone … but this kitty would be sure to bring smiles to everyone’s faces and it would be wonderful to hang anywhere in the house or office! One old fashioned tradition you could do though is to get some flowers and give them to your neighbors or just to yourself. I remember picking wildflowers from a field by the school as a kid and leaving them on people’s doorsteps for MayDay. The elderly neighbors in particular loved that tradition! They would wait with the door open so they could enjoy seeing us come and deliver the flowers.

Lovely cat and very well drawn but such a sad expression!

I like the effect of the tiny little nearly non-existent body with the full size portrait of the cat’s head. I like contrasts and this is a very good one that is well done.

The expression is marvelous … I want to sit down and cry in sadness with this baby before cuddling it to make the sadness go away!
